Thom Beers drafts zombie bikers
Reality producer to tackle first film, comicbook
By
MARC GRASERThom Beers, the producer behind the hit reality skeins "Ice Road Truckers,"
"Deadliest Catch" and
"Monster Garage," will tackle zombie bikers in his first film and comicbook project.
Beers' shingle, Original Prods., and comicbook publisher Devil's Due are moving forward with "Chopper Zombie," about a motorcycle builder who refuses to sell his formula for a new superfuel to a dangerous corporation. When a team of thugs drowns him in his own toxic creation, he rises from the dead with a score to settle.
Todd Livingston ("The Black Forest," "The Wicked West") will pen the graphic novel, with
Scott Keating ("Death and the Man Who Could Not Die," "Elk's Run") handling the art.
Original developed the project with Livingston and Keating. Beers and Original prexy
Philip Segal will produce the pic, which they hope to put into production sometime next year.
Devil's Due will launch the book at next week's Comic-Con in San Diego alongside a custom zombie chopper assembled by "Monster Garage's" creators. Title hits store shelves July 30.
"Chopper Zombie" becomes the latest book for Devil's Due to go into development as a feature, following "Drafted," "Lost Squad," "Serpo" and "Hack/Slash."
