Expozine photos
Expozine was today! It's a zine, comics, and small press fair held annually here in Montreal. This year it was in a huge church basement, and it was packed all day. I was there for most of the afternoon. I didn't have a table, but brought along some zines to hand out and trade, which is a great way to meet people and end up with a pile of stuff. People have tables full of all sorts of handmade things like zines, comics, buttons, clothes, posters, cds, crafts, and so on.
You can see in the first photo how crowded it was. The second photo is the pile of zines I made to trade... "The 8-bit Art Book" is a series of pixel-art drawings of famous artworks. The third photo shows some of the resulting loot, including stuff by fellow Newfoundlanders Jerry Ropson, Stephen Guy, and Logan Macdonald. I had a great time!

Hey Matthew, that looked really fun! How 'bout some tips on how you actually produced your mini? I could use the advice. I'd also like to make a trade sometime down the road if you've got any left.
Hi Jennifer. Here's a little graphic so you can see how I put the mini book together. Nothing too complicated... each zine is only a half a page worth of paper, plus the covers (which I printed separately on glossy paper). About a dollar per colour photocopy x 2 sides means each book cost a bit over 2 dollars to make. Not too expensive, and if I hadn't been in a hurry I could probably have found a cheaper place. I did the printing and cutting at Staples, and the stapling and folding myself. People seemed to like the book, although some of the amazing hand-drawn zines people had made made me wish I'd done something a little more personal. This is just sort of digital art-geekery, but it's a fun project. I want to do 64 artists eventually.
Correction: they're colour laser prints, not colour photocopies. Photocopies might have been a bit cheaper. And sure, we can trade! I still have a few left, and might print some more when I run out.
Ha, that's wicked Matthew, thanks a lot :) Gives me a boost to get mine finished.
